Helping Horse offers therapeutic horseback riding instruction for individuals with special needs in the Triangle area. Participants must be at least 4 years old and be evaluated by Helping Horse instructors before being enrolled and accepted into the program. Participation as a rider in the Helping Horse program requires enrollment for a full season of instruction: 35 weekly lessons at a nominal fee of $25 per lesson.
About our
Lessons:
We accept riders with a wide range of special needs including, but not limited
to, autism, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, sensory impairments and learning
disabilities.
Lessons are held 3-4 days a week during our regular season, which runs from
September through May of each year. A typical lesson lasts approximately 45
minutes.
Some riders “graduate” from our program and begin riding at regular commercial
stables. Others remain with us for many years.
We have trained participants for the NC Special Olympics since 1990. Our riders
have brought home over 30 gold & silver medals and numerous ribbons throughout
the years.
